SignalCheck allows users to check the true signal strength and details about their connections. Standard Android signal bars and connection indicators are often inaccurate; SignalCheck shows you detailed signal information on all connections on your device, including 5G-NR, LTE (4G), 1xRTT CDMA, EV-DO / eHRPD, HSPA, HSDPA, HSPA +, HSDPA, HSUPA and other GSM / WCDMA technologies . Information about the current Wi-Fi connection is also displayed, including signal strength, SSID, link speed, and IP address.
Support for dual-SIM devices is under development, coming soon.
Special thanks to S4GRU for their tremendous support for SignalCheck right from the start! Visit https://www.S4GRU.com for discussions on T-Mobile network updates, as well as to talk about devices and other mobile networks. There is also a long discussion thread in the SignalCheck forum.
SignalCheck will display all available information that the device is reporting, including details on NR and LTE connections. SignalCheck was one of the first (if not the first) Android app to provide detailed LTE information to users. NR and LTE band and frequency information is available on compatible Android 7+ devices. Information on the LTE band is also available on older devices connected to major US suppliers. Root access adds LTE frequency information on older devices.
SignalCheck also displays the current connection type along with the operator name for each connection, even while roaming.
One of the best features of SignalCheck Pro are the notification icons. A user-customizable icon shows the strength of your data connection in the notification area at the top of the screen, and more details can be viewed in the drop-down menu. The signal strength is always at the top of the screen along with the other icons … no need to open the app to check connections. The icons are customizable and show signal bars, connection type, digital signal strength in dBm or connection type with signal strength. A secondary icon can be enabled to always display 1xRTT signal for CDMA users. All this is customizable from the app!
SignalCheck Pro can also alert you with optional audio, visual and / or vibrating alerts when user-defined events occur, such as connections to particular NR or LTE bands, complete signal loss, or site pattern matching.
The “Near” cells that are within range of your device, but to which you are not currently connected, are displayed.
Users can save a log of linked sites and enter a “note” for each site that will appear in the app (eg “Springfield High School Tower”). Notes are also displayed on neighboring cells.
Other features include the ability to automatically keep the screen on while SignalCheck Pro is in the foreground, view the location of the base station (CDMA 1X site / sector location), and instantly show it in your favorite mapping app by tapping it and a home screen widget which shows the current connection type and signal strength in real time. Each widget field is color coded so that the signal information can be checked with a quick glance.
There is a feature to quickly restore data connections from the app, but your device MUST be “rooted” for it to work on Android 4.2 and above. This feature does not work on non-rooted devices.
The following permissions MUST be granted to SignalCheck for the app to function properly. Denying any of these permissions will result in limited app functionality due to Android’s security policies:
LOCATION (required to get mobile and Wi-Fi connection information and ability to record location information; “Always Allow” must be selected to allow background access, for proper notification icon display and logging when the app is in the background)
PHONE (needed to get information about the mobile connection)
Feedback is always welcome, both positive and negative. Improvements to the app are always in the works!
