The audio you hear is provided by volunteers (and, in many cases, the police and fire departments and 911 dispatch centers themselves) for Broadcastify and a few other sites that use real police scanners, ham radio, weather radio, and maritime radios and is the same as what you would hear using your police scanner.
Some of the more popular departments you can listen to using the app include NYPD, FDNY, LAPD, and Chicago Police. During hurricane season it may be helpful to listen to amateur radio “hurricane network” scanners that contain weather and damage reports when hurricanes and tropical storms are approaching or making landfall, as well as radio scanners NOAA weather forecasts.
