SatFinder (Satellite Finder) is a tool that will help you configure a satellite dish. It will give you the azimuth, elevation and tilt of the LNB for your location (according to GPS) and the chosen satellite from the list. The result is displayed both as numerical and graphical data on Google Maps. It also has a built-in compass that will help you find the proper satellite azimuth. You can also use augmented reality to show where the satellite is in the camera view.
The compass only works on devices with a compass sensor (magnetometer).
How to use this app:
1. First of all, you need to enable GPS and Internet on your phone. Remember: in most cases, it is impossible to receive the GPS signal inside buildings. So if you want to get a very precise location, get close to the windows or even go outside.
In the current version of the app, the location must be found immediately. So if you were stuck with “no location” message, make sure you have enabled all required features/permissions.
2. If the app found your location, you need to select the desired satellite. To do this, you need to find the icon with a magnifying glass and tap on it. In the list you will find all satellites with an elevation angle greater than zero degrees. Remember: the name of the satellite does not affect the calculation of the angles. The important thing is the position of the satellite.
3. The azimuth, elevation, and tilt angle are calculated for your location and the chosen satellite. Below the calculated values is a compass with graphical representation of the azimuth angle. The azimuth angle is calculated with the magnetic inclination. Remember: every time you use the compass, you must calibrate it. The green line represents the azimuth of your phone. So if the green and red compass indicators are on top of each other, the front of the phone should show the direction to the satellite. If the compass value is correct, the azimuth value of the phone will turn green.
